Dental anxiety is real—many people experience it every time they think about going to the dentist. But when you make the choice to come see us at Mountain Springs Dental, you have nothing to be afraid of.
You are our top priority. Everything our practice does revolves around making sure you, as our patient and guest, feel at home when you come in to see us. We understand that no matter how much we succeed at providing a comfortable environment, some patients might still feel uncomfortable or ill-at-ease. For times such as that, we have available for patients the use of sedation dentistry.
Our team is trained to provide you with the best quality dental care available—and we can do it with the help of relaxing dental sedation such as oral conscious sedation and laughing gas. Good oral health is crucial to your total physical health, and we want to make sure you get the care you need!
What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is a medical procedure offered to patients who experience higher levels of anxiety over dental appointments or treatments. For patients with dental anxiety, we’ll simply administer sedatives to you to help them calm down and feel more at ease when you keep a dental appointment.
Sedation dentistry can calm anxious or fearful patients down, so you can get your necessary dental care in peace. Sedation can keep you feeling comfortable and even allows you to rest during your appointment.
Dental sedation also makes dental procedures run more smoothly for our team. It streamlines our treatment process—when a patient is relaxed in their dental chair, we can get multiple procedures done all in one appointment. This means you won’t have to worry about scheduling further appointments and drawing out the process.
Types of Sedation Dentistry at Mountain Springs Dental
There are two different types of sedation dentistry that we can give you along with local numbing agents. At Mountain Springs Dental, we offer the following options:
- Laughing Gas: This type of sedation is administered as a patient breathes it in through a mask that will cover their nose and mouth. It’s colorless and odorless. After just a few deep breaths, the effects will begin to take hold and you will feel calm and euphoric. Laughing gas takes effect quickly, and wears away a few minutes after you take the mask off.
- Oral Conscious Sedation: You can also take oral conscious sedation pills that will give you the same feelings of euphoria and put you at ease. With oral conscious, you’ll take the pill shortly before your appointment, but you will need someone to drive you home afterwards because the effects last for a few hours.
