There’s always someone with the perfect smile, whether they are in a TV show or an advertisement or are simply a friend or coworker. Now, thanks to Invisalign clear aligners, you can be that someone and can enjoy the benefits of a beautifully straightened smile!
What Is the Invisalign System?
Invisalign clear aligners, often known as clear aligner treatment, are a very effective method used to straighten teeth. Through the use of clear aligners that are molded to fit your exact teeth and smile, we can take your teeth from crooked to straight in no time—all without the use of ugly brackets and wires.
How Do Invisalign Invisible Aligners Work?
Invisalign clear aligners are a great alternative to traditional wire braces. This discrete method for correcting teeth starts with a visit to your dentist. After taking molds of your mouth, you will meet with your dentist again after a few weeks to pick up your first set of trays.
Traditional braces force your teeth into place with wires and brackets. Invisalign trays make minor adjustments to the placement of your teeth over a period of several weeks each time. Every few weeks you will revisit your dentist to pick up a new set of Invisalign trays. Every new set of trays nudges your teeth a little closer to your ideal smile.
Benefits of the Invisalign System
Straightening teeth is a cosmetic dentistry procedure. However, many cosmetic dental treatments, including straightening teeth with Invisalign aligners, do much more for teeth and your overall oral health than simply straightening them.
Crooked, uneven teeth can lead to serious health issues—Invisalign aligners can change that! Our treatment is vastly preferable to that of traditional metal braces for many reasons, including:
Increased Overall Oral Health
When your teeth are crooked, they are harder to clean completely, which leaves them at risk to develop cavities, gum disease, and more serious issues. Additionally, when your mouth isn’t adjusted or corrected for the proper bite, it can put unnecessary pressure on your teeth and cause a great deal of wear and tear that your teeth shouldn’t experience in the first place.
Straightening your teeth and correcting your bite are two huge benefits Invisialign clear aligners provide.
Ease of Eating
Traditional metal braces have dietary restrictions because certain foods can get caught in the brackets or wires, or they can cause your wires to break. This is not the case with Invisalign aligners. They can be removed during meals. So you can eat and drink whatever you’d like without fear of causing harm to your teeth.
Ease of Cleaning
It is much easier to keep your teeth clean without having to brush and floss around metal brackets and wires. Once again, you simply remove your aligners, clean your teeth, then put them back on.
Metal braces often come with a lot of pain associated with poking and rubbing uncomfortably on the soft tissues of the mouth. Invisalign clear aligners negate that pain with their retainer-like moulding to perfectly fit and gradually shift your teeth. You’ll be grateful for the high level of comfort you will experience throughout the process, since it is recommended that you wear the Invisalign trays a minimum of 20 hours a day to see your desired results on schedule.
Your Invisalign trays are so clear and unobtrusive that you may soon forget you have them! You will be able to talk and eat as normal while using your trays and correcting the placement of your teeth. No one even has to know about it.
Regular check-ins with your dentist means that your teeth are always looked after to ensure that your teeth are on track. These check-ins are also a great time to ask any questions or concerns you may have about the Invisalign process. Our team is always happy to help.
Does Invisalign Hurt?
If there is one thing everyone knows about traditional braces, it is that they can be painful! Invisalign trays use a more gentle method of teeth straightening, but the principles are the same as traditional braces. Due to the pressure strategically placed on your teeth, you will probably feel some soreness each time you get a new set of trays.
Tips for Reducing Discomfort With New Trays
- Wear your trays as recommended. You may be tempted to take a break, especially when you get new trays, but don’t do it! The quickest way to get rid of discomfort is to keep your trays in so your teeth adjust.
- Choose soft foods to eat. Chewing may trigger some sensitivity in the first few days, so stock your fridge with foods that require minimal chewing.
- Drink cold water. Cold water can help soothe your sore teeth so always keep some on hand.
- Start new trays at night. The first few hours after putting in a new tray are often the most uncomfortable. We recommend putting new trays in right before you go to bed, so you can power through the early stages in your sleep.
- Take pain relievers as needed. Over the counter pain medication can help with the early period of new trays. Always take as directed, and consult with your doctor before trying something new.
Am I a Good Candidate for Invisalign Aligners?
If you are interested in correcting the alignment of your teeth, you have probably considered Invisalign invisible aligners! While this is an increasingly popular method to straighten your teeth, it is not the right choice for every patient.
Invisalign aligners are a great choice if you have:
- Teeth that protrude out.
- Mild overbite or underbite.
- Gaps in between teeth.
- Overcrowded or overlapping teeth.
- Slightly crooked teeth.
Invisalign aligners might not be right for you if you are experiencing:
- Severe oral issues or jaw problems.
- Extreme overbite.
- Extreme underbite.
Invisalign aligners are great for fixing crooked teeth, but they cannot realign the jaw bone.
The Invisalign system is usually recommended for older teens or adults. Children or younger teenagers have jawbones that have not stopped growing, so traditional braces are typically the better choice in that scenario.
